How does the appointment process work?
We book grooming appointments in the morning and afternoon. When you come in for your appointment the groomer will meet with you to discuss what you would like from the grooming.
How long will my dog be at the shop?
The time each dog takes varies based on size, scissor work, dematting and temperament. Most dogs are finished in a four-hour time frame.
How much will the grooming cost?
When making your appointment we can give you a price range based on breed. We also determine price based on coat condition and temperament of dog while being groomed.
I have seen reports on the news regarding dogs and cage dryers; does your shop use them?
At Doggy Styles we use an external cage dryer for some of the dogs. All the dryers are top of the line, new and temperature controlled. We do not have any of the dryers that house a dog and heat from within. Also, at Doggy Styles, none of the dogs are housed in another room. All the groomers are working in the same room as the dogs and can see them at all times. We do not like to "cage dry" dogs and will only use them to reduce a wet dog to damp. We then will give your dog a thorough fluff dry on the grooming table.
My dog has knots; does she have to be shaved?
If your dog comes into the salon "matted" your groomer will evaluate her and give you the best possible solution. In some cases the matting is too severe to brush out and will cause stress and pain for your dog. If this is the case we will suggest a "shave down" equivalent to a buzz cut. We do our best to try to brush out the matting and only use shave downs as a last resort. If your dog does come in with matting, your grooming price will be higher and the process may take longer.
What can I do to prevent my dog from getting matted?
There are three options that we can help you with.
- You can set up your grooming appointments for 4-6 weeks and stick to the schedule. 4 weeks for fluffier dogs and 6 weeks if your dog has shorter hair. Some dogs with a really fluffy coat require even less time between groomings.
- You can also diligently brush at home. Even 5 minutes a day will help. Don't just brush the back; brush legs, ears and belly too. You should be using enough pressure to get to the skin.
- You can also keep your dog in a shorter haircut to extend grooming times and keep maintenance to a minimum.
My dog has sensitive skin, what kind of shampoo do you use?
We have several brands we use and can tailor them to your dog's needs. For a complete listing of all our products you can see our spa menu. All of our shampoos are hypoallergenic and we pride ourselves on using top of the line products throughout the salon.
